Netflix Orders Matt Groening Animated Comedy ‘Disenchantment’

Netflix has given a 20-episode pickup to the Matt Groening animated comedy “Disenchantment.”

“Broad City’s” Abbi Jacobson is on board for the voice cast along with Nat Faxon and Eric Andre.

The series from the creator of “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” is described as an adult fantasy about a crumbling medieval kingdom known as Dreamland. The central character is a hard-drinking princess Bean, her elf companion Elfo and her “personal demon” Luci. The first 10 episodes are targeted to premiere next year.

“‘Disenchantment’ will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you,” Groening said.

I'll give it a watch if people like it. I use to regularly watch The Simpsons, but it's been 15+ years since I've seen a new one. I remember watching a lot around the 300 mark and seeing the 300th special. What's the episode count at now?

Obviously everyone loves Futurama, but I haven't revisited that since grade school.

I'll definitely watch this. I love Futurama and still watch the reruns on Comedy Central, they play a few episodes every afternoon/evening and it's always on when I'm done with work. I do still watch the Simpsons but it's not as much of a "must watch" for me as it used to be.

Oh my...there are 618 episodes. 300 aired in 2003.

Opening of the trailer looked CGI with the castle and I was very interested in what the animation would look like, but seems to be traditional Groening style. I'll maybe watch after Wags raves about it.

I was curious about the CGI too. Maybe the environments are more CGI and the characters are the traditional Groening animation?

Didn't realize this was out. None of the hosts on my tech podcast are liking it.

I watched the first episode last weekend and then the second episode was playing in the background for a bit, I didn't pay much attention to it. It didn't have the same spark as Futurama like I was hoping. Maybe I'll give it another chance.

That is what they said. Futurama takes advantage of the sci-fiction setting, this doesnt take advantage of the fantasy setting.
