It's a DC movie...so you're right. Looks kinda cool though, but it will certainly let me down.

Aquaman released at the perfect time. There really hasn't been anything big since Christmas. Looks like it will be #1 this week too. I had no idea it was doing so well either.

Aquaman (2018)

Heads up, this movie is 2 hours and 20 minutes! Holy cow it was long. 40 minutes easily could have been taken out.

The movie was alright by DCEU standards but meh by real standards. The movie had a lot of cheesy stuff that didn't work at all for me. Some of the dialogue was really clunky.

Amazing parts: when the trench monsters were revealed and the gorgeous shot of the 2 heroes diving through them. Most of the battles were really fun to watch. The camera tracked the action so well, like Nicole Kidman fighting in the house at the beginning of the movie. Speaking of action, I think there were 4 or 5 times a conversation was interrupted by an explosion.

I didn't stick around for the end credits, but I can guarantee there was a scene of Black Manta surviving.

I have more to say, but I want to make Purple_hayes get on here first to talk about how amazing it all was.

'Aquaman' Tops 'The Dark Knight' With $1 Billion Box Office
1 billion worldwide with about 1/3 being China.
Dark Knight had a whole plot involving a criminal located in Hong Kong. Didn’t even get released in China

It's still hilarious that freaking Aquaman grossed a billion before Spider-man.
I thought Homecoming would do it but it didnt.

Feel free to rip the movie apart... be like everyone else who makes fun of Aquaman... funny how he passed the Dark Knight on the money list and has actual super powers other than being rich. Granted, is this a movie masterpiece like the Dark Knight? No. But its visually stunning, the lead actor is entriguing and funny, the movie is bright and has a great message. Its a fun comic book movie that didn't follow Marvel's cookie cutter mantra. So yeah, I like the movie, would recommend it to anyone. Jason Momoa is amazing as Aquaman.

I wasn't ripping it apart!

I agree with almost all of the things you said. The best part of the movie was watching what was happening on screen. It actually felt like things were taking place underwater. The trench was like watching a moving painting, very similar to the Valkyries fighting Hela in Thor 3.

My only real compliant is the run time. I think they should have just stuck with 1 villain and saved Manta or Ocean Master for the sequel. The cheese would have been easy to look past if the movie was 40 minutes shorter and it just happened less.

They used the Thrones of Atlantis storyline from the comic for this movie. I agree, could have split this story in two to make a bit shorter movie and expanded on the two storylines, but after the failure of the Justice League. I think they wanted a complete story no matter how long it took.

With being underwater, I was worried it would seem too CGI like Green Lantern did. I think trying to limit the use as much as possible helped. Felt more realistic but yet still movie-eque.

The Thornes of Atlantis storyline expanded from the Aquaman comic, it went across other books as well. You could have brought in the Justice League to help battle Orm. I kinda wish they went with Orm attacking the mainland instead of the other factions of the ocean. It sets up Aquaman, as king of the Atlantians, to scoure the dry lands for the Atlantian tech that is left behind in the battles. Being tasked to return all Atlantian tech with battling Black Manta would have been a great second film. But unfortunately, Orm can not do what he needs to do without enlisting the help of Black Manta, as Orm was trying to make the land dwellers more hostile towards the ocean. Orm isn't Varys or Littlefinger, so his plan did not work.

It also really helped the released date was perfect since nothing else big was going on.
